A Brief History of RHCC

The Richmond HandyCrew Cooperative (RHCC) is a mobile work crew that operates within Metro Vancouver and more specifically the City of Richmond.  The Cooperative was first established to offer employment options to individuals who are employment disadvantaged and by organizing individuals, families and organizations into a cooperatively structured enterprise.

A decision was made by the Richmond Society for Community Living to register a Cooperative to establish work opportunities for persons with disabilities.  Originally based out of the Avenues Day Program, the RHCC grew in size and was incorporated under the Co-operative Association Act of British Columbia in February 2007.  RHCC is governed by the Co-operative Association Act of BC.  Our membership is made up of the individuals and families supported by the Cooperation and other people who share our vision of an inclusive community.  We have a Constitution and By-laws that set out our purpose and the legal rules about how we govern ourselves, including our Board elections, annual general meetings and financial reporting.

The initial goal of the RHCC is to enhance work opportunities and related skills of HandyCrew participants in community settings.  The objectives to achieve the overall goal are as follows:

  • Participants develop interpersonal relationships with each other and with customers

  • Participants learn safety skills and precautions when completing contracts

  • Participants learn how to use various equipment and power tools to complete products and services.
